Mammals are unable to regenerate lost neurons. However, strategies are rapidly advancing to stimulate endogenous regeneration by reprogramming glia into neurogenic progenitors. In this work, we outline a strategy to regenerate retinal ganglion cells in the adult mouse retina in vivo by overexpressing developmental transcription factors in Müller glia.
